Rider Physiotherapy & Performance
Your body is half of your partnership with your horse.
Riding is a dynamic interplay between stability, flexibility, strength, sensitivity, balance, and symmetry. Our bodies need help to deliver that for our horses. We specialise in working with riders at every level to untangle the physical habits of daily life, ensuring your body is free, strong, and ready for both the paddock and the saddle.
Why riders thrive with specialist care
Caring for horses is an intensely physical life, even before we get to ride! —from heavy stable chores and paddock work to the physical loads of our daily careers and households.
We look at your entire physical picture to help you achieve the precise balance of skills required in the saddle and help you master the unique contrasts of equestrian performance:
Synergy of Stability & Mobility
Developing a responsive seat that can keep your torso stable and still, while your hips and pelvis remain fluid enough to absorb and move in perfect harmony with your horse.
Symmetry for Straightness
Addressing the hidden physical habits and tight spots from daily life and old injuries, so you can sit evenly, ensuring you aren't unintentionally asking your horse to compensate for your own crookedness.
Strength Combined with Sensitivity
Building the postural strength needed to hold your position effortlessly, without losing the soft, sensitive rein contact and leg aids that your horse relies on.
Confidence on the Ground & In the Saddle
Restoring full mobility and resilience after falls or injuries, so you feel physically safe, strong, and confident in every situation.
How we help
Every equestrian assessment and treatment plan is built around how your body functions in the saddle—not just how you move on the ground. Our process is clear, collaborative, and entirely customised. We combine hands-on care with practical movement strategies tailored to the unique needs of riders, completely moving away from generic protocols.

A detailed dive into your history, the problems you are experiencing on and off your horse, and what you want to achieve. Assessments can include observing you on board as well as on the ground, and we check to see whether your saddle fits you, as well as your horse. We utilise sports-specific tests to assess for asymmetries in strength and motion, connecting the dots between how you move off your horse and how you perform in the saddle. You leave with a clear clinical picture and a tailored plan.
-
We focus on removing the physical barriers holding you back from improving. Pain, nerve tension, and deep tissue restrictions block you from developing better strength and symmetry. By clearing these restrictions, we restore the capacity of your body to train for and integrate better posture, alignment, and balance.
Depending on our clinical findings, your tailored hands-on treatment may include: Manual therapies (such as massage, myofascial release, and joint mobilisation), dry needling, neuro-dynamic techniques, and taping.
-
We don't believe in generic exercise sheets. Once we have restored your body’s capacity to move and improve, our focus shifts to training and maintaining those gains. We design targeted exercises to activate previously inhibited muscles and build true strength and endurance within your new, better movement patterns.
Combining clinical reasoning, published research, and a healthy dose of ingenuity, we adapt your home programme to suit your exact environment and available equipment. Whether you need us to help refine your current gym routine, collaborate with your personal trainer, or find simple movements that fit into a hectic stable routine, your programme is built to work for you.
-
We are here to help you live your best riding lives. Our genuine understanding of the bond you share with your horse, combined with our specialised Physiotherapy expertise, makes us uniquely equipped to support you both every step of the way.
Common Questions
A few things riders often want to know before booking.
-
No referral is needed. You can book directly with us for any musculoskeletal issue. If we feel you need further investigation or specialist input, we'll guide you through the right pathway.
-
Absolutely. Recreational riders often carry the same injuries as competitors — sometimes more, because fitness and conditioning tend to be lower. Whether you ride twice a week or twice a day, we work with you.
-
Yes. Many of our clients come to us after general physiotherapy hasn't stuck. The difference is usually that we assess and treat within the context of riding — understanding the forces and positions unique to equestrian sport.
-
Only if it's clinically necessary — and we'll always tell you exactly why. In most cases we modify rather than stop. Staying in the saddle (safely) is usually better for both the injury and your mental wellbeing.
-
Yes. We work with junior competitors and young riders from age 10 upward, with parental consent and involvement.
